Nicolaas John Habraken, architect, educator, housing theorist and former chairman of the MIT Department of Architecture, died on the 21st of October, 2023. He joined MIT as the Department Head of MIT Architecture in 1975 and stayed on the faculty until 1990, the year of his retirement. Nicolass’ engagement with the MIT Department of Urban Planning, artists, theorists, and more produced a broad influence in the world of architecture and the built environment.
